Montana Hill Guest Ranch is a welcoming British Columbia guest ranch built on a lifelong dream of creating a place where guests can experience authentic ranch life, unforgettable nature experiences, and a peaceful relaxation getaway in the heart of cowboy country.
This unique guest ranch began as a series of ranch properties over several decades before being purchased, renovated, and reopened by the current owners, Elaine and Al, in 2016. Prior to moving to the Cariboo region, Elaine and Al owned and operated a boutique inn and working farm on Vancouver Island for many years.
Their background in hospitality and farming naturally shaped the warm atmosphere you’ll find today at Montana Hill Guest Ranch. Unlike many large resorts, this British Columbia guest ranch offers a small, personal experience where guests quickly feel like family. Without crowds, every stay feels relaxed, welcoming, and memorable.
Guests visiting Montana Hill enjoy a truly authentic ranch environment combined with comfortable ranch accommodations designed to make every stay both peaceful and enjoyable.
How did Al and Elaine fall in love with this beautiful corner of the Cariboo? The answer becomes clear the moment you arrive.
Montana Hill Guest Ranch is a working cattle ranch located in the heart of the South Cariboo region of British Columbia, surrounded by rolling hills, forests, and open pastures. As a true British Columbia guest ranch, it offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience authentic ranch life while enjoying a relaxing and scenic vacation rental destination.
The ranch spreads across hundreds of acres of gently rolling landscape dotted with pine, aspen, and fir trees. Beyond the property, miles of nearby public land offer incredible opportunities for outdoor activities, including horseback riding, hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the many clear lakes that make the Cariboo famous for fishing.
Guests visiting Montana Hill Guest Ranch quickly discover that this is more than just a place to stay — it’s a complete ranch vacation experience. The quiet surroundings, fresh mountain air, and breathtaking views create the perfect setting for a rejuvenating relaxation getaway.
Elaine and Al designed the ranch to offer guests an affordable yet memorable vacation rental experience without sacrificing comfort. Visitors can unwind in private ranch accommodations, including cozy self-contained cabins featuring kitchenettes, ensuite bathrooms, and handcrafted log beds decorated with western antiques and collectibles.
Many guests spend their evenings soaking in their private hot tub while overlooking the pastureland, watching the sun set across the hills as the BBQ smoke drifts through the aspen trees.
For those who enjoy social spaces, the Big Sky Lodge offers a welcoming gathering place where guests can play billiards, relax by the impressive river rock fireplace, or simply enjoy a quiet evening with a book beneath displays of local wildlife and western memorabilia.
But the Montana Hill experience goes far beyond comfortable ranch accommodations.
Guests can take part in authentic ranch life through hands-on nature experiences and family-friendly outdoor activities. These include private artisan cheese-making workshops in the ranch house, learning to milk Princess Alexandra — affectionately known as “Lexi” — the Jersey dairy cow, bottle feeding calves, and collecting fresh eggs from the chickens.
Families especially enjoy these interactive ranch experiences, which provide children with unforgettable memories and a genuine connection to rural life.
Of course, no guest ranch experience would be complete without adventure. Depending on the season, visitors can enjoy horseback riding, snowmobiling, axe-throwing competitions, and evenings around a crackling campfire filled with laughter and music.
At Montana Hill Guest Ranch, every day brings new opportunities to experience the outdoors, relax in nature, and enjoy a true British Columbia guest ranch vacation.
The sweetheart
The Greater
The Lover

The heart of Montana Hill Guest Ranch lies in the story of its owners, Elaine and Al.
Al grew up on a farm in Ontario where his father trained standardbred horses. As Al likes to say, he never owned a bicycle growing up — only horses. Elaine grew up moving throughout Canada as her father served as a minister with the United Church of Canada. She later raced snowmobiles for Bombardier, developing a lifelong love of the outdoors and adventure.
After marrying, Elaine and Al built a successful high-end automotive business that specialized in restoring luxury vehicles such as Ferraris, BMWs, and Mercedes. Alongside that business, they also created and operated a small boutique inn and farm, which they ran for over 20 years.
In 2016 they sold the inn and moved to the Cariboo region to pursue their lifelong dream — creating Montana Hill Guest Ranch.
Today, their passion for hospitality, ranch life, and the outdoors shapes every guest experience at this welcoming guest ranch in British Columbia. Their goal is simple: to provide guests with a warm, authentic ranch experience filled with memorable outdoor activities, peaceful nature experiences, and comfortable ranch accommodations.
When choosing a vacation rental, families have many options — camping trips, beach holidays, or city travel. But years later, many of those trips fade from memory.
What guests remember most are the moments that feel truly unique.
A horseback ride across open hills.
Milking a cow for the first time.
Watching the stars from a private cabin hot tub.
Those are the memories created at Montana Hill Guest Ranch — a British Columbia guest ranch where unforgettable ranch vacations begin.
